What next for Food Poverty: A Community Good Food Network Event

Registration is closed for this event

The next Food Durham Community Good Food Network event will focus on supporting families in County Durham in sustainable ways this winter and beyond.

In the context of the end of the government’s furlough support, removal of the Universal Credit uplift and spiralling costs of living we know there will be enormous pressure on household budgets this winter.  DCC recently passed a motion to create a consistent and inclusive Food Action Plan that reflects and addresses the needs of all families across County Durham, view the motion here

Our speakers for this session will be:

  • Mary Readman, Interim Head of Service for Transactional Services at Durham County Council who is the officer with responsibility for the Poverty Agenda and will talk about DCC’s approach to supporting households.
  • Margaret Nelson, Area Manager for the Trussell Trust will talk about their 2021 Together for Change Strategy and how people can engage with it.
  • Vic Harper, That Bread and Butter Thing will talk about their approach to supplying food at scale and the additional benefits for users they have noticed.

This is your opportunity to hear about the council’s approach to food insecurity over the coming winter, to find out more about two large emergency food charities working across the county and help shape the way we support families in the future.

We have extended this session to 1.5 hours to allow more time for discussion time if needed.

The event will take place online and joining instructions will be emailed to people who’ve registered prior to the meeting.
