Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 13th - 19th May and this year’s theme is 'Movement: Moving more for our mental health’.

Movement is important for our mental health, but so many of us struggle to move enough. The Mental Health Foundation know there are many different reasons for this, so this year they want to help people to find moments for movement in their daily routines.

Share your #MomentsForMovement on social media during the week and get involved by looking at the resources on the Mental Health Foundation website

You can also see the What's On section below for details of a local event Stamp It Out are hosting and find out how to get involved in 'Wear It Green Day.'

There is lots of support for mental health and wellbeing across County Durham. Along with Durham County Council, DCA support forty Crees across County Durham. The Cree network offers a safe, communal space to men, women and young people who may be experiencing poor mental health, risk of social isolation, self-harm, suicide or need support with their health and wellbeing. The Community Mental Health Transformation programme (CMHTP) is also taking place across County Durham. The aim is to transform the way in which mental health support and care is provided in local communities for adults with serious mental illness, with a focus on the whole person, not just their diagnosis and clinical support.

This includes development of a number of ‘hubs’ across the county. These hubs aim to enable smooth referrals to a range of support and ensure there is ‘no wrong door’ for people who need to access services.

To learn more about the transformation, you can watch the NHS England summary video which explains the programme in more detail: The NHS Community Mental Health Transformation - YouTube
