The Volunteer Recruitment Fair last Friday was a huge success at Durham Market Place. The event was attended by 36 organisations across County Durham looking to recruit volunteers. Following on from national Volunteers’ Week, the fair was an opportunity to raise the profile of volunteering in County Durham and demonstrate the excellent work volunteers do in our local community. The 36 organisations who attended showcased the breadth of volunteer opportunities and the causes they were supporting in County Durham. The fair was well attended by the public throughout the day and many organisations valued the opportunity to network with peers and share information; with some organisations taking details of over ten potential volunteers to recruit. Charlotte Linton, Volunteering Specialist at Durham Community Action said: “The fair was a great day for all involved. Many organisations found it useful to explore possible working partnerships and referral options for the people we support. It was a great networking opportunity to connect with community partners who we don’t work with. Many organisations had lots of volunteers sign up which proves that events like these are effective.” If you missed the fair and want to find out more about some of the organisations who attended, visit our Facebook page, which has videos from some of the stall holders talking about their projects and volunteer roles. We are also launching a new podcast episode in July reflecting on Volunteers' Week and the volunteer fair, keep updated on our Facebook and Twitter pages for news on the DCA podcast. DCA also offer training opportunities for volunteer coordinators which include a volunteering and the law course, volunteer recruitment course and volunteer boundaries course.
