There is a lot happening around food nationally. Below you’ll find links to just a few of the things that have drawn our attention in recent weeks: Together for Change - The Trussell Trust supports a very large number of food banks across the County and indeed the country. However, their vision is for a UK without the need for food banks. It’s not right that anyone cannot afford their own food and the Trussell Trust has set out what they are doing to get there. The Broken Plate 2021 - The Food Foundation publishes a report every year on the state of the UK food system summarised in 10 metrics. It makes for start reading. You can find the report and the ‘at a glance’ overview here Vocal for Local – The Land Workers Alliance (LWA) campaign Vocal for Local is advocating for local, short supply chain food systems as the solution to many of the problems in the food chain. The LWA suggests shorter supply chains are key in the route to fairer, sustainable and resilient systems that are fit to meet the urgent climate, nature and health challenges that we face. More here C.L.E.A.R campaign for clear labelling - C.L.E.A.R. is a petition to the UK government to establish a system of mandatory food labelling. For all of us to be able to make informed food choices we need to understand how those choices impact on health, on the people involved in the production, on animal welfare, on nature. More here National Food Strategy - We are expecting Part 2 of the National Food Strategy for England to be released in July 2021. When that happens we expect it to be available here Food builds community- from crisis to transformation – The Local Trust and the Food Farming and Countryside Commission believes that, with the right support and power to access the right levers, communities could be at the forefront of the food systems transformation that we need, and benefit hugely themselves.
