Welcome to the January 2022 Edition

We are delighted to be once again supporting Village Halls Week - a national campaign shining a spotlight on the contribution England's 10,000+ community buildings make to rural communities. It is an opportunity for management committees to celebrate their work and get inspiration from others.

The campaign is led by ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) and this year the fifth campaign will challenge halls to do something different and innovate for the future.

Launch of Village Halls Week Podcast

We are delighted to be launching our second podcast to celebrate Village Halls Week. The theme of this year’s campaign is to challenge halls to do something different and innovate for the future.

We will give you an insight into what is involved in the work community buildings do in County Durham.

We have chatted to our Community Development Officers Tracy and Isla who talk about the support, advice and guidance Durham Community Action give to community buildings in the county, and to representatives of Framwellgate Moor Youth and Community Centre, Blackhall Community Centre and Dipton Jubilee Hall about the ways they are ‘innovating for the future’ this Village Halls Week.

Online Share and Learn Network Meeting - Community Buildings Network

We would like to invite representatives from community buildings to our next meeting which takes place online on Tuesday 25th January from 10.00 - 11.30am.

We will be discussing lessons learned from following Christmas activities as well as plans for 2022. We will also be celebrating Village Halls Week and the difference community buildings make to people in their communities.

Taking Action to become a Greener Voluntary Organisation Workshop

Have you thought about how your organisation could be greener? Join us online on Thursday 3rd February from 10.00 - 11.30am to look at creating an action plan for a greener organisation, what to include in an environmental policy and ideas on what can be done to support our communities to take action.

Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grants

Durham County Council are inviting eligible businesses in the hospitality, leisure and accommodation sectors including community buildings to apply for these one off payments.

Your organisation must be liable for business rates as at 30 December 2021 and continue to trade.

To apply you will require your business rates account reference number, a copy of your last month's business bank statement and a copy of a utility bill for the business premise.

Please note the deadline for applications is 14th February.

Let's Create Jubilee Fund

The Let’s Create Jubilee Fund will support voluntary and community groups to develop creative and cultural activities as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022. The fund has been created by Arts Council England (ACE) with funds from the National Lottery.

The fund is open to voluntary and community organisations with charitable aims and working towards a common goal which does not have to be based solely around arts and culture. This could include youth groups, parent/carer groups and volunteer organisations.

This fund covers both County Durham and Tees Valley, and is being managed by the County Durham Community Foundation.
